Magnolia is the ice cream brand that I grew up with. Well why not? They pioneered the ice cream industry in 1925. How can I ever forget the iconic ice cream parlor along Roxas Boulevard built in 1970. I remember our vacations in Manila were not complete without binging on a banana split . It was also the place where my then ex-boyfriend would bring me on a date, enjoying the Chocolate Parfait sundae.
I bet some of you get confused with the Nestle and Magnolia ice cream brands. Confusion over the Magnolia brand exists today ever since Magnolia was acquired by Nestle in 1996 and the name Magnolia was phased into Nestle branded ice creams. Though reintroduced in 2004, the younger ones confuse Nestle and Magnolia. Today, they are two distinct brands.
I got confused too but Mayo Alcon, Magnolia Ice Cream General manager told us during a mom bloggers event about the history and changes to Magnolia Ice cream. The ice cream parlor is no longer in Aurora Boulevard. Robinson is building a condominium complex there. Hopefully, they can bring back the good old days of the ice cream parlor with a vintage seventies look. A new ice cream plant is now located at Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
The mom bloggers event was to introduce us to three limited edition flavors namely Vanilla Praline, Caramel Cheesecake, Apple Strudel. The packaging is quite unique. The in-mould labelling with tub wrap was designed by a PUP student, in line with the nationalistic theme of “Daang Matuwid”.
The Caramel Cheesecake contains cheesecake bits with streaks of caramel ripple in a Caramel Ice Cream base.
The Apple strudel contains apple cinnamon bits with crushed chocolate pretzels swirled with a combination of green and red ripple and enhanced with creamy vanilla flavor.
Vanilla Praline contains cashew praline with streaks of caramel ripple in Vanilla Ice Cream base.
The moms got to test the new flavors. I must say I love the Apple Strudel. The flavor is distinctly reminiscent of the holidays. Try all of the three limited edition variants (Vanilla Praline, Caramel Cheesecake, Apple Strudel) today!
